Man United Shopping Spree ...

Manchester United go through a shopping spree after a disgraceful campaign that saw them finish seventh in the 2013/2014 Barclays Premier league, something Manchester United has never experienced in the reign of former manager, Sir Alex Ferguson. With the arrival of Louis Van Gaal, the club sets to boost their squad within the current transfer window. Van Gaal is hoping to close deals of players such as Ángel Di María, Arturo Vidal, Daley Blind, Juan Cuadrado and World Cup winner, Mats Hummels. With clubs preseason imports of Luke Shaw and Ander Herrera, the Dutch manager has confirmed that seven the clubs players are set to departure before the start of the new campaign. Even though the club has lost major sponsors, Manchester United have agreed an enormous £750million sponsorship deal with Adidas, which means we will see Manchester United in Adidas from the beginning of the 2015/ 2016 campaign. Other major sponsor, will be £47 million-per-year shirt sponsorship deal with Chevrolet, which sees it as the current world-record sponsor holding.

Objectives

Van Gaals has been opted three objectives. First objective is to clear out players that he believes are not ‘’fit’’ for his formation 3-5-2 formation. Secondly, the team expect him to win his first five opening matches before facing the league giants and league contenders, Chelsea, at the end of October. Last objective the club has set for the Dutch manager is to select a captain after the departure of the Reds former captain, Nemanja Vidić, for Italian giants Internazionale. Rumoured that the Dutch might choose between strikers Wayne Rooney and Robin van Persie, van Gaal has said that he might prefer an ‘English style’ skipper.

van Gaal versus Ferguson

When Louis van Gaal was positioned to take over Ajax in 1991, he took over the club desperately trying to live up to its past glories. He was unsentimental in his actions, picking established and popular players such as Brian Roy and Dennis Bergkamp and quickly implemented his own tactics. There is a school of thought that says the reason David Moyes failed at Manchester United was that he was too similar to Sir Alex Ferguson but wasn’t Ferguson. Sir Alex Ferguson is very much a manager in the Matt Busby mould. He may be the last of his generation and, I believe, he is the greatest football manager ever. Sir Alex had huge self-belief, strengthened by generosity and humility. The Premier League is far greater than any other league in the world. There is lots of money involved, competition is harsh from teams top to bottom of the league. There is far more combination between home-grown and bought, British and foreign great players, with managers doing far more. Managers around the world can learn from Sir Alex, the greatest manager of all time, according to me.
